Beautiful Newenden Village

Newenden is the smallest village in Kent and also the first village in Kent as you travel across the 18th century bridge over River Rother. It rests on memories of grander days, when its port, market and sixteen inns were an important part of the regional economy. Today it is just a small, friendly village, but the tradition of enterprise remains strong.

The village lies entirely within the High Weald AONB and the central, oldest part of the village is a conservation area in its own right. Around us we have some of the most beautiful rural landscape in the South East, so why not come and visit? Explore the village through our website and then in person - you are always very welcome to Newenden!

Family Fun Day

The big day is now done and dusted, and what a nice event it turned into. The weather was generally kind and the attendance was very healthy considering the strange times we live in and our low key promotion. Best of all, £544 was raised for the new village hall project, so a huge thank you goes to everyone who participated. As always, the dog show was a big draw, and we thank Phil for running it with such flair and Megan for being the judge. The dogs were a delight to behold and we congratulate all the rosette winners!

Fran & Bonnie winning prettiest bitch

This year the baking competition really took off so Chris and Ray had a very nice task on hand, judging the many delicious entries. Many thanks to both of you and to all the bakers. The raffle was a new feature this year and turned out to be a great money spinner, raising £280. There were some very generous prizes, not least from local businesses Bodiam Boating Station and Gardenscape, and we appreciate everyone's generosity in both donating and buying. Jane and Brian were the perfect raffle meisters, presenting the prizes expertly and selling lots of tickets, so thank you for taking on the task! Having stalls for village charities is a nice feature of the day and it was very good to see Jane and Anthony selling ducks on behalf of the Friends of Saint Peter's Church and Jillian and Hazel (with other helpers) promoting the meadow restoration project. We also thank Marianne and Tom for taking part and making donations from their takings. The bar proved popular and we sold £171 worth of Pimms, beer and soft drinks, and the odd strawberry!

New Village Hall (updated 18 March)

We are pleased to announce that we have been given VAT exemption from HMRC which means that there will be more funds available as well as having charitable status enabling us to access various grants which we are in the process of doing. Over the next few weeks the steel frame will be erected and then the building can move forward. Needless to say the weather has been a bit of a drawback and meant some stalling of progress.

The latest version of the plan for the hall, showing the position of kitchen, loos etc can be Seen Here
